Beauty & the Beast: Faction Transfers Now Live.
Although it seems to have slipped beneath WoW.com and MMO-Champion’s noses (at the time of the post, anyway), Faction Transfers are now live.
If you’re interested in undertaking this change, make sure you read up on the FAQ and log out of the character you wish to transfer; you need to be offline for 20 minutes. In addition, please note that although it’s not clear on the FAQ (because there are apparently two FAQs about this that conflict), you will lose all of your Silver Covenant/Sunreaver reptutation and associated achievements. All of them. This means that you need to start over on any and all Argent Tournament dailies, and some of your faction pets may have converted, despite the FAQ detailing that they won’t.
Coming up:
- DPS gear spreadsheet update
- Maximizing raid buffs
- Primer on boosting DPS in five mans versus raids
- Comics

Apparently if the minipet is still an item in your bag, it will not be converted. However, if you’ve “learned” it, it’s considered a spell and will be converted.
At least, that’s how I’m reading it at the moment.
Interestingly, all of my Alliance tournament pets I’ve had for some time now, and only one of them converted (as an already learned spell.) This is confirmed by a GM as some ridiculously weird bug, and they’ve acknowledged disparities between various FAQs.
I personally plan to move over my Blood Elf Paladin and make it a Space Goat, but only after I do the 16 dailies left to get my Venomhide Ravasaur. Ezmode Wintersping Frostsaber, INC.
Corgii — I read that the Wintersaber/Venomhide rep doesn’t switch. You may want to open a ticket and confirm with a GM before you do that.
^This. I heard the same thing. I hadn’t maxed out Wintersaber rep, so I couldn’t tell you.
Weird.. I ended up doing it anyway (decided to just grind it out over the 4 day weekend), but on the tables it shows that they switch. Hm!
I’m sort of disappointed that this doesn’t include a realm transfer. I expect most faction changes would be to match the faction of someone you know from outside the game and want to play with, in which case they are probably on a different server.
Paying for both feels… lame. I was thinking about it for my old lvl 60 priest just to avoid a few days of leveling, but now I’m reconsidering.
I agree, actually. Unless you’ve got a reasonable amount of disposable income (and hey, if you’re working and don’t have kids, you certainly might), it’s a little pricey to do both.
The faction transfer does, however, allow you to change your gender and/or name, if you so desire.
