Collecting Clams: Unexpected Feral Rewards

Posted in Feral on Jan 24, 2009

Raiding Druids aren’t the only ones who can take advantage of the FAP changes by equipping shiny two-handers. If you’re a fresh Feral (or even if you’re just flirting with the tree), it’s difficult to find an adequate leveling weapon until you’re more than midway through your grind to 80. Lame, am I right? You want a sweet weapon to get you through Howling Fjord, Borean Tundra, and Dragonblight, and you want it to have more than 700 FAP and a badass graphic.

Look no further! If you’re at least level 70, have a spare 30 minutes, and can get yourself to Borean Tundra, you can pick up the Tidebreaker Trident. In the far Northern reaches of Borean Tundra, just to the West of Bor’Gorok Outpost, you can check out Winterfin Cove. If you haven’t picked up or completed any of the Murloc quests down there, you’ll need to hit up “Learning to Communicate” and then accept “Winterfin Commerce” to unlock “The Clam Vendor.”

This dude, Ahlurglgr, will sell you a bunch of random shit (that you mostly don’t want) if you’re willing to go around and pick up Winterfin Clams. They’re everywhere in Winterfin Cove: on the ground, lurking around huts, deep in caves, underwater, dropping off dudes—you name it! Pick up 50 of the clams (this won’t take you very long at all) and then exchange them for your trident. That’s it. If you want to avoid other quest-goers and mobs alike, try hunting for the majority of your clams underwater. Aquatic Form coupled with the accompanying glyph, lets you make some serious headway beneath the surface. Crank up your terrain distance so you can see the specks of clams lurking in the distance.

Though the trident is lacking in the STA department, you still gain far more benefits than you would from  the Bramblethorn Greatstaff, a weapon you can obtain via a quest in Howling Fjord at a similar level. What are you waiting for?

Yes, you’re right. There’s a mistake in one of the spreadsheet formulas that I need to fix. Thanks!

Tidebreaker Trident > Sonic Spear, since Hit is fairly irrelevant for leveling.

Obviously yes. But the blood, pain and agony went through to try to get the spear on a hunter? And then it drops for the druid?
The irony, the nostalgia. Clams just don’t compare :P

I got this for my hunter to level with and am going to get it for River sometime this week, I don’t really ‘do’ feral but I thought it would make a rather good lady Vashj costume xD

        Epic flight form + clams = Siren’s tear = 250g :)
